Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day instead of Columbus (Support)

The Harvard Crimson reports on the Council’s inaction on an item held over from the last term: renaming the second Monday in October “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.” Along with many others in the community, I support the name change. While I am sensitive to the strong feelings of some Italian American residents who would like to retain a day to mark the many contributions of those of Italian heritage, I think we should no longer celebrate Columbus and that Native Americans the deserve broader recognition and honor that a holiday would confer.
