City Council Agenda (3/28/16): Roundtable with School Committee

This Monday (3/28) the City Council will hold a two-hour “roundtable” discussion with the School Committee in lieu of a regular council meeting. The agenda is posted online. There are no policy orders/resolutions, petitions, or items on the City Manager’s agenda for me to highlight this week. Members of the public are invited to attend roundtables, but there is no public comment period — and no votes are taken. Minutes of this roundtable will be included on the agenda of the next regular council meeting and may be commented upon at that time.

The stated goal of the roundtable is “to set an agenda going forward” and there are 15 possible discussion topics listed, each of which could consume an entire two-hour meeting. Honestly, I don’t know what to expect, but I am eager to see where this takes us. There will also be an update on the Cambridge St/King Open School reconstruction project.

This term the Council amended its rules to allow roundtables to be televised, and I had hoped that this one would be. However I’ve been informed that the School Committee would have to agree to this policy, and I don’t know whether they have been formally asked. I hope that all future roundtables will be televised.

The 3/28 roundtable will take place in the CRLS Media Cafe at 459 Broadway from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
